Coexistence of both typically ferroelectric (Tc1∼434 K) and frequency dependent broad transitions (650 K≤Tc2≤800 K) in έ versus T is demonstrated in a multiferroic candidate [(Pb0.8La0.2)(Ti0.8Fe0.2)O3]. The sample shows spontaneous magnetization and enhancement of magnetization on electrical poling. We demonstrate clearly that although the frequency dependent broad transition has no origin in ferroelectricity and is instead driven by a corresponding magnetic ordering at ∼650 K, the solid solution shows magnetoelectric coupling due to its pure ferroelectric behavior at and below 434 K.
