Abstract

This book discusses applied tropical ecology and shows how it is used to improve economic development in tropical developing countries. It describes the benefits to be gained and the losses which can be prevented by applying ecology to economic development. In this book, ecology is applied to agricultural development, both agroecology and agroforestry; moist forest management; pest management; and large-scale hydro and irrigation schemes. It includes chapters on teaching applied ecology to nationals of tropical countries; ecology applied to conservation; and environmental sustainability.
