Abstract Analytical and experimental studies on the three principal aspects of flow through screens are described: (a) The relative drop in pressure as a function of screen form and solidity ratio; (b) the capacity of screens to modify the velocity distribution; and, (c) the characteristics of the turbulence which screens produce. Because of their frequent hydraulic application, primary attention is given to relatively coarse lattices and perforated plates. Results are presented in dimensionless graphs which are immediately usable for design purposes.
