Abstract Several methods have been developed by law enforcement agencies for determining whether or not an individual has recently handled or discharged a weapon. When a suspect has been apprehended following a shooting, detection of gunshot residues on his hands may provide significant evidence. The value of such a test is substantial in the investigation of alleged suicides, armed assaults, poaching, and other violations involving the use of firearms.
