Paramagnetic Resonance of Co<sup>2+</sup>Ion in Yttrium Aluminum Garnet

Electron spin resonance of Co 2+ ion in yttrium aluminum garnet is investigated and three kinds of Co 2+ spin sites are found. Most of the Co 2+ ions occupy the octahedral site with g // =6.470 and g ⊥ =3.050 and the tetrahedral site spins with g // =2.446 and g ⊥ =2.176 are also found. Other complex spectra are attributed to the interstitial Co 2+ spin respnance with g x =1.94, g y =3.80 and g z =5.57. There are 24 magnetically-inequivalent interstitial sites and the observed lines are satisfactorily assigned by this model.
