The problem of deterioration of lime, lime-slag and cement stabilized pavement layers during curing, before sealing and in service is partly ascribed to carbonation of the stabilizer during curing and subsequent exposure to the atmosphere before sealing. The surface disintegration problem can be prevented by better construction practices. However, the long term durability of cementation appears to be in question and further research is urgently needed. (Author/TRRL)
