Abstract

Many water utilities that now use a standard plate count to monitor the bacterial level in finished water supplies would prefer to use a membrane filter procedure if a standard method were available. A new agar medium used with a membrane filter procedure is reported to produce higher bacterial counts than those obtained using the standard pour plate procedure.
