Various prostaglandins or indomethacin were applied topically at the same time as the topical application of the tumor promoter 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), or the carcinogen 7,12 dimethybenzanthracene (DMBA). Tumor promotion was enhanced by two groups of prostaglandins and by indomethacin but was inhibited by one prostaglandin group or arachidonic acid. The mechanism operative in each stage is believed to be different. (PCS)
