Abstract

Intermittent cold cardioplegia inhibited mitochondrial function but prevented the degradation of adenine nucleotides. Warm antegrade cardioplegia had the greatest myocardial oxygen consumption, and warm retrograde cardioplegia had the greatest anaerobic lactate production. There were no differences in clinical outcomes between cardioplegic groups.
