Production, collection and treatment of garbage in rural areas in China.

Abstract

Objective To know the status of the production,collection and treatment of different types of garbage in the rural areas in China.Methods The investigated sites were selected by random sampling and the questionnaires were answered by village leaders during 2006-2007.SAS8.2 statistical analysis software was used to analyze the data.Results The production of domestic garbage in the rural area was 0.86 kg,the rate of collection was 63.28%,the rate of treatment by landfill was 57.03%.The production of productive garbage was 2.03 kg per person in one day,the rate of collection was 83.44%.The aquaculture garbage accounted for 44.11%,the straw weeds accounted for 33.36%.The productive garbage was treated by direct reuse and hightemperature composting,accounted for 46.31% and 26.29% respectively.Conclusion Stockpile at discretion of the domestic and productive garbage may affect the living conditions of rural residents,the treatment of garbage will be the important way to improve the sanitation in the rural areas in China.
