Corrosion of muffler materials in automotive exhaust gas condensates

Abstract

The corrosion of automotive mufflers collected in North America was investigated. Aluminium (Al)-plated steels corroded severely in the substrate under the Al plating. Type 409 (UNS S40900) stainless steels sustained a large number of pits.
