FROM experiments on suckling rats it has been shown that copper has an important influence in the formation of haemoglobin and the red blood cell. The Wisconsin workers Addition of purified iron salts to the diet causes no abatement of the anaemia although iron is stored in the liver. The addition of copper however produces a marked reticulocyte response and haemoglobin increase. These results have been confirmed by others In addition Cunningham and Josephs have shown that copper feeding reduces the iron in the liver and tissues and increases that in the blood.
