About

Platelet activation is the academic concept and research field investigating the complex cellular and molecular processes by which blood platelets transition from a quiescent state to an activated state in response to various stimuli. This fundamental biological process involves rapid changes in platelet morphology, the secretion of contents from internal granules, and the alteration of surface receptor expression, leading to enhanced adhesion to damaged vascular endothelium and subsequent aggregation to form a hemostatic plug. The study of platelet activation is critical for understanding normal hemostasis, as well as the pathogenesis of thrombotic diseases, inflammation, and other cardiovascular disorders.
