Mobility studies (african american studies) is an interdisciplinary field of inquiry situated within African American Studies that critically examines the diverse forms of mobility experienced by Black individuals and communities. It investigates how physical movement, social and economic advancement, and the navigation of various systems, including infrastructure systems and wireless networking, are shaped by race, gender (with particular attention to the experiences of black women), history, and power dynamics. This field analyzes the historical and contemporary constraints, opportunities, resistance, and agency related to Black mobility across different scales and contexts, providing crucial insights into the complex relationship between race and movement.
