Augmentative and alternative communication assessment is a systematic, multidisciplinary process focused on evaluating the communication needs, strengths, and challenges of individuals with complex communication needs who may benefit from or currently use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). This academic concept and methodological approach investigates the individual's capabilities across various modalities, considering environmental factors and potential AAC systems, to inform intervention planning and maximize communicative participation and independence.
